Piaggio Presents Electric Vespa at Milan Show
Catching up with the times, Piaggio presents Vespa Elettrica project at Milan show
At the international two-wheeler fair in Milan this past fall, the Piaggio group presented a prototype electric Vespa scooter called Elettrica, which they plan to put into production by late 2017.
With Elettrica, Piaggio will introduce the most famous scooter brand to the world of ‘clean air’ and catch up with other major manufactures whom already have electric scooters in production.
The tapered silhouette of a wasp
At the Milan show the Vespa Elettrica had nothing under the hood and Piaggio did not produce a specification data sheet. No details were provided regarding the characteristics of the electric powered engine.
The prototype proudly sports the tapered silhouette in the shape of “wasp” which gave its name and made the success of the famous two-wheeled icon.
This will be “a real Vespa”, assured Piaggio. “The style, agility, ease of use and pleasure of riding will be the same.” No indication has been given to the retail price but one can presume it will be in the higher end of the Vespa price range.
