Piaggio confirms electric Vespa scooter to be available for purchase in 2018
Vespa parent company Piaggio announced at the Milan Motorcycle Show that the Vespa Elettrica and Elettrica X will become available for purchase in 2018.
The Vespa Elettrica will have a range of 62 miles (100 kilometers) and will require, using a standard wall outlet, four hours for a complete charge of the battery.
An app will allow riders to connect to the Vespa Elettrica through Bluetooth, providing the rider with diagnostic information, messages, phone calls and the location of the scooter.
Vespa will also sell a hybrid version called the Elettrica X, which combines a gas-powered generator with the electric motor offering a range of 124 miles (200 kilometers).
The scooter will be available in silver with an option of rim color, orange, yellow, gold, blue, black, silver or grey.
Vespa Elettrica will be wholly produced in Pontedera, Italy and will venture forth from there for worldwide distribution in 2018. Piaggio has not provided pricing information, but stated that customers can preorder the Elettrica online as of spring 2018.
