New Orleans, Louisiana – June 12-15 2014 Vespa Club of America (VCOA) is pleased to announce that the site of Amerivespa 2014 scooter rally will be once again in New Orleans, La., on June 12 – 15, 2014. Jointly hosted by the Big Easy Weekender United, a conglomerate of the Nola clubs, Amerivespa New Orleans will be four days of scootering fun for scooter enthusiasts and general public.
New Orleans is one of the nation’s premier vacation destination spots in the USA. Long known for its many attractions including the French Quarter and its lively music scene, New Orleans will provide an ideal location to celebrate and promote motor scootering in the USA.
A key part to the success of Amerivespa is to have a local scooter club that can provide and showcase the best of what the region has to offer in entertainment, local cuisine, scooter riding, and stage an event appealing to both vintage and modern scooterists. The united scooter clubs of New Orleans including the New Orleans Scooter Cooperative, New Orleans Scooter Girls, The Nola Ruckus Society, and Voodoo Scoots, will be the consummate hosts for such an experience in the “Big Easy”. Their success in hosting their annual Big Easy Weekender rally provides them with the knowledge and expertise to host Amerivespa.
Amerivespa is an international scooter rally held annually by the VCOA to promote scootering, VCOA membership, and provide a celebratory atmosphere for all scooter enthusiasts. National and local scooter manufacturers, dealers, and supporting trade organizations will be on hand to display their newest products. A traditional portion of the rally includes the staging of a scooter concourse showcasing the best restored and custom scooters. A skills gymkhana featuring a riding skills competition is highly entertaining to scooterists and the public.
Amerivespa 2014 will be its 22nd anniversary and over four days will generate over a million dollars to the local regional economy. The annual rally has previously drawn visitors from all over the USA, Europe, Canada, Asia, Mexico, and Australia. Amerivespa is the largest annual motor scooter rally in the United States and typically brings over 600-700 scooter enthusiasts. New Orleans with its additional draw as a tourist destination could conceivably bring over 1,000 attendees.
This year is especially important because another huge scooter event is also combining with us. We are very excited to announce that the Scooter Cannonball Run, a coast to coast endurance event for scooters will be making it’s bi-annual race this year from Alaska to Louisiana ending at Amerivespa! It is a test of both rider and machine that covers 3500 miles and takes in some of the best motorcycle roads on the North American continent.
VCOA is a non-profit organization whose members are dedicated to riding motor scooters, and is a society for people who share the passion of vintage and modern scooters. Approximately 70% of the scooters originally sold in the United States were Vespas. However, many members also own Lambretta, Heinkel, Zundapp, and other makes. VCOA supports the use of the scooter as an energy-efficient vehicle and economical mode of transportation that conserves fuel, reduces traffic congestion, and treads lightly on the overworked road system. While its origins are rooted on the iconic Vespa scooter, the VCOA welcomes all scooter enthusiasts regardless of what they ride.
