RED Vespa Elettrica to Benefit Fight Against AIDS and COVID

The Elettrica RED is the storied scooter marker’s third partnership with RED Association.

Piaggio has again joined forces with the RED Association, founded by Bobby Shriver and U2 front-man Bono, in assembling a RED Vespa Elettirca to assist people battling these illnesses.

Initially established in 2006, RED helps individuals affected worldwide by the AIDS virus. The association now also assists in the war against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Elettrica RED is the legendary scooter builder’s third partnership with the fundraising group. In 2017 Piaggio produced a limited edition 946 RED, followed in 2020 with a limited production Primavera RED.

The digital color displays all the riding parameters, including trip statistics.

Aside from rubber and chrome accents, the Special RED is cocooned in luxurious metallic red paint. The lightweight and petite frame makes the scooter a perfect urban commuter, allowing riders to quickly and quietly dart through city streets in a trail of zero emissions.

The digital color dashboard displays all the riding parameters, including trip statistics. The Vespa MIA multi-media app connects your smartphone to the bike via Bluetooth, so the display becomes an extension of your phone, allowing you to use your phone while keeping your hands on the handlebars.

As a bonus, the more modest 4kW, 32 mph (45 km/hour) Elettirca motor powers this particular edition scooter. Maintaining the RED within the maximum permitted capacity for European mopeds, which exempts owners from the European yearly road taxation. Apart from the cause, Piaggio focused on delivering an urban motor scooter to make the daily commute more manageable. From riding to recharging to maintenance and with the cherry on top – the scooter’s ability to reverse.

According to Piaggio

  • $100 from every purchase of a Vespa Elettica RED will benefit the fight against pandemics like AIDS and COVID.
  • Donations are made directly to Global Fund and not RED Association.
  • One hundred percent of the funds strengthen healthcare systems and life-saving programs in Ghana, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambia.
