Universal Riders Salutations

What matters most is the connection between riders and the open spaces they share.

The following ‘salutations’ are recommendations, any acknowledgement of  our two wheel bothers and sisters will suffice.  What most matters is the connection between riders and the open spaces they share. Long may we all ride!

Greet fellow riders with a friendly universal gesture, by using a International Rider Salutation. With the obstruction of protective equipment and loud traffic noise, a simple hand salutation allows for a safe acknowledgement and quick ‘communication’ with fellow riders.

The International rider salutation should be preformed only when the rider is stopped or in a stable position.

“HELLO and LONG MAY YOU RIDE”

The first salutation uses two fingers in a “V” shape position. The palm faces forward with the hand pointed diagonally and downwards – picture 1.

“GOODBYE, THANK-YOU and LONG MAY YOU RIDE

The second salutation is similar to the first but with the palm facing backwards – picture 2.

“ALL IN ONE”

The third salutation is a twister, combining the two previous salutations into one smooth rotation. The hand starts in the first position and rotates into the second, saying, HELLO, GOODBYE, RIDE SAFE, LONG MAY YOU RIDE, ect..

The International rider salutation should be preformed only when the rider is stopped or in a stable position.
