The New Vespa 946 Motor Scooter
The new $10,000 dollar Vespa 946 motor scooter
First shown at the 2011 EICMA show badged as the Quarantasei, the Vespa 946 is a complete re-thinking of the current Vespa motor scooter. At first glance the changes are obvious but the changes are more than the form of the handlebar, the proportions of the fairing, or the plunging curves of the saddle.
The 946 is riddled with technological advances such as ABS, LED headlamp, LCD display, traction control, partial aluminum construction, front and rear disc brakes.
With the goal of developing a completely new design to inspire future generations of Vespa scooters, in the same way the original did, Piaggio went back to the future. For inspiration Piaggio visited the original 1946 Vespa, hence the name, as the starting point for the 946. With cost as no obstacle, Piaggio attempted to answer the question of what a motor scooter should be.
The Vespa 946 is offered in annual 100 unit limited edition runs, starting with the 2013 Ricordo Italiano edition, followed by the Bellissima edition for 2014 and the 946 EA Emporio Armani Edition 2015-2016. For more information visit Vespa.
