Extreme Sports Athlete Günter Sets New World Record Blindfolded – Finishes With Spill
Austrian extreme sports athlete, Günter SCHACHERMAYR added to his many accomplishments, another world record by riding his custom rear wheel only Vespa through a 279-meter slalom course while blindfolded.
Günter’s zeal for Vespa is the outcome of his childhood exposure to both his parent’s enthusiasm for the Italian scooter. This passion has led Günter to setting countless records and turning him into a star of the world stunt riding and freestyle championships.
The attempt took place on Sunday 16.06.2019 at the Gmunden Laakirchen airfield, in Oberösterreich, Austria.
Günter was blindfolded and fitted with a radio headset, where he received directions from his mentor, Matthias Bachner.
“The visual system “calibrates” the others, the absence of which contributes to falls and balance disorders. Studies suggest a relationship between poor vision and a heightened risk of falls,…” Paul Fiscus, Maplewood Sauk Prairie.
Everything was going as planned until the finish when a communication breakdown resulted in Günter losing control and being tossed from the Vespa. “I finally ran out of air under the Black Sack and completely lost my concentration,” said Günter, “I no longer heard the instructions clearly.”
Aside from minor skin abrasions and a slight dent to the ego, all ended well. The video and pictures documenting the event has been sent to Guinness Book of Records.
